Youth Ministry

Mission Statement

Youth Ministry enriches our high school teens in a dynamic environment, focusing on three aspects of Catholic life: spiritual, service, and social.

Confirmation & SALT 2025-26 Registration is now closed

Sunday Youth Nights starts July 13th

About Our Programs

Our Confirmation program is a two-year journey designed to help teens grow in their Catholic faith and prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation as mature disciples of Christ. Candidates may begin in the fall of their freshman, sophomore, or junior year, and are confirmed in the spring of their second year.

Eligibility:

All candidates must:

  • Be baptized Catholic and have received First Holy Communion. If your teen has not received one or both of the above sacraments, please check our OCIA ministry page.
  • Be actively practicing their faith, including regularly participating in the Sacraments.
Small Groups:

Teens are placed in small groups for the duration of the program. Each group includes at least two adult leaders and, when possible, teen co-leaders from our SALT ministry. Due to the size of our program, special placement requests cannot be accommodated. All adult volunteers are Safe Environment certified.

Program Requirements

Each candidate must fully participate in the following three areas:

1. Credo (Faith Formation)
  • Attend 10 of 12 sessions per year
  • Complete 1 assigned project each year
  • Attend 1 Confirmation retreat each year
2. Connection (Parish Engagement)
  • Attend 5 Youth Nights each year
  • Complete 4 Sponsor Sessions each year
3. Community (Family & Service)
  • Complete 2 service projects each year
  • Family must attend 5 Family Nights each year

SALT is our San Antonio Leadership Team – a program for Confirmed juniors or seniors. You can join SALT as a senior even if you did not participate as a junior.

SALT meetings are on Wednesdays, approximately every other week, which include a variety of formats including study, prayer and social activities. SALT teens are also invited to be co-leaders of Confirmation groups, attend Confirmation retreats as part of the leadership team, and participate in other service events at our parish and in the community.

Adult Volunteers – this section is for you!

SALT is our San Antonio Leadership Team – a program for Confirmed juniors or seniors. You can join SALT as a senior even if you did not participate as a junior.

SALT teens are also invited to be co-leaders of Confirmation groups, attend Confirmation retreats as part of the leadership team, and participate in other service events at our parish and in the community.

Each adult catechist will be paired with another adult to help lead a confirmation small group. Small group sizes are determined by the number of adult volunteers and teens in the program.

Attendance is expected and required as follows:

  1. (2) Confirmation meetings a month (hall and small group)
  2. (1) monthly workshop (at church for only adult and SALT volunteers)
  3. (1) Confirmation weekend retreat each program year (all volunteers travel on the bus and bunk in same buildings as teens)
  4. Volunteer kickoff meeting (Sept)

Each small group may have one or more SALT teens who volunteer to participate (number depends on how many teens choose to make the commitment). They are expected and required to attend the classes and workshops as well.

We already have the curriculum in place! At each workshop, the group of catechists will review the upcoming class curriculum. The adult volunteer’s role is to facilitate discussion within their small group. Each meeting has a topic along with discussion questions and group activities.

All adult volunteers must be fingerprinted, complete online safe environment training and online safe driver courses. Details will be coordinated through the Youth Ministry Office.

We have a group of adult catechists who plan and facilitate our SALT meetings and retreats. SALT catechists will prepare material for meetings, present talks at retreats, and provide spiritual leadership and guidance for our young, Catholic teen leaders.

Attendance is expected as follows:

  1. (2) SALT meetings a month
  2. (1) quarterly planning meeting
  3. (1) SALT weekend retreat each program year (all volunteers travel on the bus and bunk in same buildings as teens)
  4. Volunteer kickoff meeting (Sept) – optional

All adult volunteers must be fingerprinted, complete online safe environment training and online safe driver courses. Details will be coordinated through the Youth Ministry Office.

We host various events throughout the year beyond Confirmation and SALT meetings. For everything from one-time service projects to a weekend retreat, we need adult volunteer to chaperone our teens.

All adult volunteers must be fingerprinted and complete online safe environment training. Details will be coordinated through the Youth Ministry Office.

Many of our events require administrative prep work that is simple but time consuming. If you have time to volunteer but not necessarily at a Youth Ministry event with the teens, there are a number of small projects that you can help with in the office or to be completed at home.
