Mission Statement
San Antonio de Padua’s Kids Ministry recognizes the value and importance of family life in the faith journey of a child. The events and spiritual experiences we offer aim to support family life and serve children as they draw closer to Jesus!
We offer a variety of “Faithfully-Fun” opportunities for our children because their spiritual needs are diverse and, sometimes, unique. Please see the “Our Kids Ministry Programs” tab below to find information on what we offer.
Our programs for Pre-Schoolers through Middle Schoolers thrive when parents and volunteers take ownership of this ministry and are willing to walk alongside the children and their families! Volunteerism is the heart of this ministry. Prayerfully consider getting involved with us!
We love to hear from our families! For more information or answers to questions, please contact our office at (714) 974-2053.

Our Kids Ministry/Middle School Programs FAQs
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is available to all children in Grades 1st through 6th. This special gathering is offered as part of the Sunday 10:00am Mass. All children will be called forward together by the presiding priest prior to the First Reading, then dismissed into rooms with an adult leader. Children will hear and discuss the gospel reading at an age-appropriate level and will return to Mass as a group after the homily. Kiddos are welcome to come as they are – registration is *not* required for Children’s Liturgy; all children in Grades 1-6 are welcome!
Kids Ministry, for our tiniest disciples! It’s all about building a relationship with Jesus through play-based “faithfully-fun” activities like music, story time, prayer, crafts, and games! This program is offered during the Sunday 10:00am Mass and is located in the Cook Faith Formation Building. Registration is required and children are required to be fully potty trained to join in the fun!
Kids Ministry First Eucharist Program is designed for children who have not yet received their sacraments. Our gifted catechists and leaders are here to partner with you and your family on this beautiful faith journey. Registration for both Year 1 and Year 2 is required. The following First Eucharist programs are available:
- First Eucharist Preparation Year 1 is designed for children in 1st through 3rd grades who have been baptized but have not yet received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Year 1 gatherings are offered on Sundays from 10:00am – 11:30am, Mondays from 3:30pm-5:00pm and Mondays from 5:30pm-7:00pm.
- First Eucharist Preparation Year 2 is designed for children in 2nd through 3rd grades who have been baptized, completed the First Eucharist Preparation Year 1, and have not yet received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Throughout this 2-year program, children will learn about and discuss big questions like: What is the Eucharist? What is absolution? What are the ten commandments? Why are the seven sacraments important? Most importantly, the children will be excited and ready to receive Jesus at our First Communion Masses in May! Year 2 gatherings are offered on Sundays 10:00am-11:30am, Mondays from 3:30pm-5:00pm, and Mondays from 5:30pm-7:00pm.
Sacramental Preparation Year 1 Program is designed for baptized children in 4th grade and above who wish to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion. Topics such as Forgiveness, the Ten Commandments and Sacraments will be shared in preparation for the First Communion Masses in May. Sacramental Preparation is offered on Sundays from 8:30am-10:00am. We encourage all families to attend the 10:00am Mass. Registration is required.
OCIA for Kids is designed for children over the age of 8 years old who have not been baptized and wish to become Catholic. This is a 2-year program which culminates in children receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil in their second year of the program. OCIA Year 1 for Kids is offered on Sundays from 8:30am-10:00am. Registration is required.
OCIA Year 2 for Kids is offered on Sundays from 11:30am-1:00pm. Registration is required.
Kids Ministry is all about Faith and Fun! Children who have received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist AND who are in grades 3, 4, or 5 are welcome to join in this exciting program where growing a relationship with Jesus is the name of the game! Speaking of games, gatherings will be filled with energizing games, engaging bible stories, art, inspiring worship music, devotion and prayer, as well as tasty snacks! Kids Ministry is offered on Mondays from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Registration is required.
In the Middle School program, the focus is on the “5 F’s”: Faith, Friends, Fellowship, Fun, and Food! Using small groups, energizing games, engaging talks, spiritual activities, and Christian service, Ignite aims to meet young teens (grades 6, 7, 8) right where they are as they grow even more deeply in love with Jesus! The program will be more like a Junior High Ministry, rather than a classroom model. The program will include social gatherings and social justice opportunities. Ignite provides a safe fun place for middle school youth to find solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. Middle School will meet on Mondays from 7:00pm-8:30pm in the Cook Faith Formation Building. Registration is required.
